Macedonia: sex workers’ and rights advocates’ reaction: what has been done
Here is what the Coalition for protection and promotion of sexual and health rights of marginalized communities has done so far in the follow-up of the action by the Macedonian police.

- Case report and request for intervention to the Sector of internal control within MoI, President of First Instance Court Skopje, Helsinki Committee for Human rights, OSCE Macedonia, Ombudsman
- Pres release and alert for possible human right violations, requesting official institutions to react
- Already several direct meetings with Ombudsman with request for immediate reaction
- Serials of coordinative meetings with partners within the Coalition for promotion of sexual and health rights on marginalized communities, human rights experts, OSI Macedonia, legal experts in order to confirm information and create plan of action.
- Press conference and pres release with questions for legitimacy of the whole action.
- Case report and request to enter at the agenda at Commission for human rights within the Parliament of Macedonia. The commission has meetings every 2-3 weeks.
- Case report and request for action to the Court of Honor at the Association of journalists regarding the media representation of the event and disclosing the identity of the people involved. The Court already officially responded and asked for additional information to address the issue.
- Request for meeting of the CCM (Country Coordinative Mechanism for HIV/AIDS) leaded by Minister of health with focus on forced HIV testing and existing national HIV preventive program for sex workers which on regular basis offer preventive interventions, testing and gynecological check ups on voluntary and confidential basis trough the program of HOPS.
- Request for meeting with country representatives of joint UN team on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM, UNHCR, WHO + UNDP).
- Case report and request for action to OSCE, Council of Europe and European Commission.
- Securing free legal aid and legal representation for sex workers willing to raise case in front of institutions. The legal aid is secured with help of OSI Macedonia and OSI New York (SHARP and LAHI programs). Securing continuous psycho social support for sex workers.
- Information of wider sex work community, supporters and allies trough different networks and coalitions: SWAN, ICRSE, APSNW, AIDS Action Europe, EATG etc and still considering how we can use their support.
- Regular press clipping and documenting media reporting.
- Documenting the statements of sex workers – something which will be a longer process.
