Gennady Davidko, Belarus MP, says that prostitution should be legalized and children given sexual education in the form of family viewing of porn movies.

Talking about “prostitutes” with a reporter from the Belarus daily Belgazeta, Davisko says “Let's say they are conceived by drunkards who are not healthy either, they are not OK in their heads, some of them managed to get through to graduate from school, some of them didn't. They don't want to study; they don't want to work... They are demoralized. They start it (prostitution) so that they could survive somehow."

Nevertheless, prostitution should be legalized in Belarus says Davidko, also because it is impossible to sanction it effectively: "Even in the countries where prostitution is sanctioned by death penalty, it still exists” explained his opinion the MP. On the other hand, “in the countries where it is legalized, it brings earnings to the state”.

Gennady Davidko is convinced that brutality in curbing prostitution is not human, especially given that the majority of prostitutes come from disadvantaged families. In his opinion, they are “people with limited possibilities, almost invalids. The state needs to protect them.”

Seeing the police members at the welcoming event together with sex workers activists and supporters, hearing the fact that 90% of reported cases between 2005 -2009 are solved and perpetrators are convicted, and that rape rate over the last year was 40%, was a real inspiration and hope that in a period of time, trough a committed work we can get there too..
