Zimbabwe’s sex workers flocking to Malawi for business
Malawi has not been spared, with the political rhetoric of the new Ngwazi’s - President Bingu wa Mutharika - slogan of food security achiever, many Harare night riders are seeking solace from the streets of commercial city of Blantyre, capital city in Lilongwe and the young promising evergreen city of Mzuzu.
"The Ngwazi has been donating maize to our country, and Malawi has been put on the map by this Bingu Mutharika because of the works of his hands, especially in agricultural sector, I thought it viable to see Malawi and I will be returning very soon", said Ruth Muzenda, a Chitungwiza resident in Harare who looked to be in her early twenties who is plying his sexual trade in the city of Blantyre.
"Sometimes we travel as far as Lilongwe by Axa Coach Buses, we even visited Mzuzu up north", chipped in Donatta Muchilezi who proudly extolled Malawian men to be generous and accommodative but not loving.
The women commended life in Lilongwe as fast loving, especially when they are patronizing Chez Mtemba and Star light drinking joints.
But the most intriguing and disquieting issue was the 14 year old Zimbabwean girl, name withheld who was found in Lilongwe by human rights activists to be plying the same malevolence trade at Kawale, Biwi and Mchesi.
When quizzed, the girl revealed that she was smuggled from Harare by a certain Malawian Truck Driver.
The driver, who works for Chita One Haulage Company has since been arrested and the girl has been airlifted to back to Zimbabwe, said the source who opted for anonymity.
The 14 year old girl came to Malawi in October 2008 through Mwanza border after she was hidden in the container only to be dumped in Lilongwe at the Mchesi by her alleged boy friend.
She was really in a desperate situation; Nocturnal Monsters around the Kawale, Mchesi and Biwi townships took advantage of her desperation for food and shelter to devour on her newly broken virginity.
She had no exact place to sleep as most men were just hitting and run on this strayed girl. Thanks to these local human rights activists who rescued the Mashingo girl for further tormenting life.
When the police were contacted, they confirmed knowledge about the issue, and they said they are in the process of gathering other information and they will soon prosecute the Driver of Chita One on the charges of Child abuse and human trafficking.
According to the girl's side, the Truck Driver of Chita One met her in Harare on his way from South Africa in February 2008. They have been going out together for some time now.
They could leave Harare up to Nyamapanda border where she could be given money for transport back to Harare. But this time around the driver insisted to smuggle her in a container up to Malawi where she was deserted in the local rest houses in the city townships.
According to some other sources, when the driver reached Lilongwe to his offices, he was assigned to work on local trips instead of the usual international trips and this saw him deserting the girl for he had run out of cash to take care of the daily upkeep of the girl.
When the owner of Chita One contacted, he confirmed the arrest of his driver, whom he blasted to be careless with his life and he has since fired the driver.
