First Drop-in Center Opened in Skopje, One Sex Worker Employed

The center is owned by HOPS which is securing the sustainability of the service provision. Purchase, adaptation and equipment of the premises were financed by the Global fund to fight HIV/AIDS and the Ministry of Health in Macedonia.

Another particularity of the newly opened center is that for the first time in Macedonia it employed a sex worker as a stuff member. While assisting in running the drop in center utilities, she is going through training which will prepare her for the future peer educational work and awareness rising among sex workers about their human and labor rights. “We deeply believe that the involvement of one sex worker in the work of the center and sex workers human and labor rights awareness rising will in the future result with an establishment of self organized groups of sex workers in Macedonia” says Marija Tosheva from HOPS.
