Toronto councilor wants to create red light district on Toronto Island
After that, he is intending to investigate a non-residential part of town for the red light district.
However, the Sex Workers Alliance of Toronto said such an arrangement would not clean the streets of prostitution.
"Not everybody wants to work in a massage parlour, so it will continue that there will be those working outside the red light district," one sex trade worker said.
Since Toronto island is not only a tourist attraction, but also a place for families, many residents are not pleased with this idea and are calling it "ridiculous."
"It's clearly a controversial idea...I don't think that's what you want in your city," one resident said.
So far, Mammoliti has only named the Toronto Island as a possible location.
