Poles United Against Legislation Targeting Clients of Sex Workers

The debate that followed showed an outstanding public interest in the issue. In a live program that Polish National Radio broadcasted on January 3, a number of listeners made phone calls to protest the idea. An online survey on the radio’s website showed 91,44% of the website visitors being against it and only 8,56% supporting it.

Tatiana Duklas, President of TADA, SWAN member from Poland, took part in the program and opposed the draft law. She confronted the anchor, which in one moment said, “We all agree that prostitution is a form of social pathology.”

“Voluntary sex work should never be perceived as a social pathology”, said Duklas, and widely quoted Declaration of Sex Workers Rights, adopted by sex workers in Europe who don’t see themselves as pathology but as workers who want their rights.

Until the closure of this issue of the SWAN News, the initiative has not been discussed by the Polish Parliament.
