 Tais Plus and the Sex-Worker Network “Shah-Aiym” is organizing an event to protest the violence against the sex workers with the financial support of the UNFPA and the Soros Foundation Kyrgyztan. The event is meant to commemorate two important dates: December 1st, International AIDS Day and December 17, International Day to End Violence against Sex Workers.

The Association of Hungarian Sex Workers recently represented Hungarian sex workers at the 54th Session of CEDAW, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in Geneva, in February 2013. By using the submission of a shadow report and active advocacy at the session , the Association achieved a landmark success in its history: the Committee recommended that the Hungarian government ‘adopt measures aimed at preventing discrimination against sex workers and ensure that legislation on their rights to safe working conditions is guaranteed at national and local levels’.

A meeting of the sex worker network Shah-Aim took place on June 7-8 at lake Issyk-Kul. The meeting was made possible due to financial support by the Robert Carr foundation. The participants of the meeting were representatives of sex worker community from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and their allies.

On May 24, 2013, Silver Rose, the activist group advocating for sex workers’ human rights in Russia is planning to apply for official registration number for their organization. The proposed name will be: Silver Rose - Non-commercial partnership of sex workers and their allies to protect sex workers’ health, dignity and human rights.

In October 2012 Ministry of Interior of Kyrgyzstan has initiated new draft bill to introduce an administrative offence for sex work. (also read background article here).

Tais Plus with numerous allies – organizations and individuals – implemented wide advocacy campaign to stop this initiative of Ministry of Interior. Finance support was provided by Urgent Action Fund. Bishkek Feminist Collective SQ has provided incredibly sounding promotion about all our efforts against new draft bill.
