Macedonia: Services for sex workers expand out of the capital
On April 1 this year the national project Keeping low HIV prevalence in Republic of Macedonia was launched. Through this program financially supported by The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), services for sex workers, their clients and families will for the first time ever be expanded out of Skopje. HOPS, SWAN member from Macedonia will run current and establish new activities targeting sex workers. More
3 new programs for support of sex workers will be established in 3 cities in Macedonia – in Strumica, Gostivar and Bitola. The current ongoing activities (outreach and drop in centre) in Skopje will be also supported. Says Maria Toseva from HOPS: “We expect that new programs will improve the access to services to a larger number of sex workers and help mobilizing community on national level.”
In the GFATM Round 7 Macedonia won 6,8 million Euros for 5 years of implementation.
