Since then 17 December has become a global day of activism. On this day sex workers mobilize in resistance to the violence they face as a result of discrimination, abuse and violations of their rights and take the time to remember their colleagues, friends and family who have been victims of violence.
Unequal protection under the law is what allows prostitutes to be pimped, enslaved, beaten, raped and murdered.
The red umbrella is international symbol of solidarity of the sex workers.
Red is a color of beauty and an umbrella is the resistance to sky’s and humans’ attacks. It symbolizes protection from the abuse sex workers are subjected by the police, pimps, customers, and an ignorant and biased society.
Find a way to show your support for sex workers rights… this day and everyday.
