“The campaign focuses on eight fundamental human rights that are drawn from the Constitution of Slovak Republic, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Declaration of the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe” – says Lubica Tornoczyova from Odyseus, SWAN member from Slovakia.

From August 2008 till March 2009, during their regular outreach work, Odyseus representatives will speak with sex workers in details about human rights, stigma, discrimination and advocacy. The aim of this phase of the campaign is to educate sex workers about their human rights, and also about mechanisms available to them to report and resolve cases when their human rights are violated.

Chosen examples of human rights would be printed on special coats for condoms and distributed on the streets of Bratislava. In the monthly magazine Intoxi which Odyseus distribute between sex workers and/or dug users, detailed articles about each human right will be published.

In December 2008 campaign will enter the second phase, in which general public will be educated about violation of human rights of sex workers. Distributed will be postcards and coasters in the bars, pubs and discos in Slovakia.

“The main aim of the campaign is not only to identify main human rights of sex workers and then increase awareness of them. We also want to influence public opinion and let people know that sex workers are part of our society, with the same human rights and responsibilities as anyone else.”, adds Tornocyzova.

C.A. Odyseus thanks Open Society Fund Slovakia for their financial support to the campaign.
