SWAN’s Submission to the Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls
On the 31st of January this year, the UN closed their call for input from stakeholders on “prostitution and violence against women and girls”, with the results to be presented to the UN Human Rights Council at its 56th session in June 2024. The language in the callout, with its use of the terms ‘prostitute’ and ‘prostituted women’, along with various mischaracterizations of the sex worker rights movement, was highly controversial, raising notable objections from sex-worker-led organisations worldwide. We have taken the opportunity to present evidence whilst raising some of these issues with the original call. You can read the full statement in English here.
