Today, 1st of December, is the World AIDS Day. On this day, every year we remember those who passed away from AIDS and honour those who advocate to fight against the HIV epidemic. SWAN also expresses solidarity with all the people who are affected by HIV.

Kemalita Ördek, the executive director of the Red Umbrella Sexual Health and Human Rights Association, a transgender sex worker and human rights activist, was violently attacked by 3 criminals in her house in Ankara in July 2015. All 3 attackers were found guilty and sentenced.

Open Society Foundations have examined sex worker-led programs that protect health and rights and have published a detailed and thoughtful report. The report describes programs in 5 countries: Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa. SWAN members from Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan, All-Ukrainian Charitable Organization «LEGALIFE-UKRAINE» and Tais Plus, took part in the report.

Violent attacks against transgender people in Turkey continue unabated. Hande Kader, a 23-year-old transgender woman based in Istanbul, disappeared a little over one week ago. Her friends and partner filed a missing person’s report. Hande Kader’s burned and mutilated body was found in Zekeriyaköy (district of Istanbul) by the side of the road, reported the LGBTI News Turkey.

The research encompassed 73 sex workers operating on the territory of the City of Skopje. The interviewees were women, men and transgender individuals from the open scene, closed scene and the scene of Shuto Orizari (the district with the majority of roma people).
